Microwave and Wireless Communications CenterMicrowave and Wireless Communications Center Digital microwave communication, optical fiber and satellite are the three pillars of modern telecommunications and transmission. The goal of the Microwave and Wireless Communications Center is to become the national level platform for international exchange and cooperation for microwave and communications, microwave and communications system integration and presentation platform, and microwave and communications technology incubation. In the initial period of establishing this Center, the Center will focus on the development and application of RFID technology. As a new type of information collecting and processing technology, RFID products are fast and work in real time, can be re-used, have strong penetrating ability, are quick to adapt to different environments with large data capacity. They can be applied widely in such fields as manufacturing, retailing, logistics, transportation, medicine, and national defense. It is reported by CNN that RFID will be one of the ten most influential technologies in the twenty-first century. The broad application of RFID technology confronts many challenges, among which are: how to process the large volume of original RFID data, how to make full use of the RFID information, and how to link the RFID network and the Internet. All these are important research topics that need to be addressed. It is therefore our task to build up a public Center for RFID application and development, to organize an RFID R&D center emphasizing RFID middleware technology. In addition, the Center covers high performance RFID readers, and provides a system and set of standards for RFID low cost solutions (RFID middleware technology). |
